1st Quarter 2012

  • NCC advocates for the creation of Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) under the Regional Development Councils;

June 2012

  • NCC organizes the 1st RCC Dialogue in Cebu with 10 newly formed RCCs;

September 2012

  • The 2nd RCC Dialogue is convened in Davao with 15 RCCs and the National Capital Region;

November-December 2012

  • The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through Alvin P. Ang, Ph.D., of Project INVEST, assists' NCC in developing and validating a framework for local economic development and competitiveness;

February 2013

  • NCC holds a consultative forum with the RCCs to finalize the list of indicators in the framework;

March 2013

  • The final list of indicators is released to the RCCs. Data collection begins;

June 2012

  • NCC organizes the 1st RCC Dialogue in Cebu with 10 newly formed RCCs;

July 2013

NCC, with the support of its development partners, hosts capacity-building programs in Manila for selected RCC representatives:

  • The International Finance Corporation orients private sector members on Business Permits and Licensing System Streamlining;
  • The World Wide Fund for Nature orients public sector members on Business Risk Assessment and Management of Climate Change Impact;

RCCs are again convened by NCC in a meeting workshop to review the framework and recommend improvements.After the standardization and processing of data into rankings, NCC releases the 1st Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index with competitiveness rankings for 122 cities and 163 municipalities at the Regional Competitiveness Summit in Manila.

November 2013

  • To help the RCCs reform their local Business Permits and Licensing System, NCC partners with the International Finance Corporation for a second time to train selected private sector representatives on Regulatory Simplification;

December 2013 and April 2014

  • In preparation for the next round of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, NCC organizes RCC meetings in Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro to discuss an enhanced framework and plans moving forward;

November 2013

  • To help the RCCs reform their local Business Permits and Licensing System, NCC partners with the International Finance Corporation for a second time to train selected private sector representatives on Regulatory Simplification;

April - June 2014

  • The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index 2014 presses forward with data collection, validation, and processing;
