PRE-EVENT PRESS RELEASE

6 June 2016

The National Competitiveness Council (NCC) shall convene again leaders from the public and private sector for the 4th Annual Ease of Doing Business Summit on June 7, 2016 to give an update on the reforms developed by concerned agencies to address the challenges on the ease of doing business in the Philippines.

The summit will highlight Philippines’ performance as one of the most improved economy in the Ease of Doing Business Report, moving up a total of 45 notches from 2010 to 2015. Public and private sector members of the Ease of Doing Business Taskforce will also present their respective work programs and their plans in line with Game Plan 4.0 which aims to push the country to the top third of the global rankings by 2016. The Game Plan is the latest blueprint to streamline government processes and is intended to further boost the Philippines’ rankings in the Doing Business Report published by the World Bank Group – International Finance Corporation.

The Doing Business Report measures the ease of doing business across ten processes which a business must undertake with several government agencies over its typical life cycle: from Starting a Business to closing a business.

Based on these processes, ten work teams have been organized to develop and implement reforms in the business regulatory environment. Each work team is composed of representatives from the different national government agencies involved in each process, plus private sector advisors and local government unit (LGU) officers. (Where, the LGU measured in the Doing Business report is Quezon City.)

Secretary Adrian S. Cristobal Jr., Public Sector Chairman of the National Competitiveness Council and Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, Secretary Cesar V. Purisima, together with other top ranking government officials, businessmen, diplomatic members and development partners are expected to attend the EODB Summit.
