CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 2 -- The Regional Development Council (RDC), constituting the Regional Competitiveness Council, will set competitiveness building a major part of the regular council agenda, as the agreement reached in the special RDC-X Executive Committee (Excom) meeting held last April 26 in this city.

Ruy Moreno, Director for Operations (private sector) of the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) presented to the Excom the proposal to create this with the proposed structure and activities, including data collection on competitiveness indicators, capability building, monitoring and evaluation, and other productivity and competitiveness programs.

The Global Competitiveness Report 2011-2012 that he earlier presented showed the country’s comparatively low competitiveness ranking among ASEAN and other nations.

A working committee composed of the Department of Trade and Industry and National Economic Development Authority regional offices, as well as chairpersons of the RDC sectoral committees shall discuss the operational requirements for the RDC constituting as Regional Competitiveness Council. A set of competitiveness indicators appropriate for the region shall be developed. The help of the NNC shall be sought in generating resources for the development of methodologies for competitiveness' researches and surveys and data collection.
